The Way Back Report- Banana Twinkies

bananatwinkies

Oh yeah, it’s confirmed, the long awaited permanent return of Banana Twinkies is here! Twinkies were originally released as banana cream filled, but due to banana shortages during World War II they were changed to their current vanilla-esque incarnation. The banana version was released periodically for special promotions but those days are gone. No more waiting around for some silly King Kong movie remake product tie in, the original Banana creme filled Twinkies are here to stay.  Yum!

Read on:

Hostess has reintroduced the flavor during limited-time promotions in the past, but always took the treat off the shelves when the promotion ended.

The company was finally persuaded to make the flavor part of its lineup for good after Hostess offered it for four weeks last year for the release of the movie King Kong. Total Twinkie sales jumped 20 percent during the promotion.

The flavor got high marks from Amanda Reid, 29, who was taking a break Tuesday in Manhattan. After taking a bite, she pronounced it “banana-y.”

You read that right, banana-y. Now if only they would make chocolate covered Twinkies with banana filling, our work here would be done.

Get a big delight in every bite:

When I was a kid up in the Great White North, there were these full-sized Hostess treats that were like a half inch thick, 5 inch diameter Twinkie-type cake folded over and filled with a prodigious amount of banana-flavored cream.

That is a product I really miss.

MC- Sounds delish! Must have it!
SamFrog- wipe up the drool and let’s start the letter writing campaign.
I wish I had a moon pie right now. Hey does anyone remember Pin Wheels? They were from Nabisco, hard chocolate base with a marshmallow topping all dipped in super dark chocolate. They were shaped like a bunt cake but the majority was marshmallow. I think they quit making them because the packaging was huge to keep the dark chocolate from breaking. They were my grandfather’s favorite, mine too.

Also why can’t there be a twinkie filled with chocolate creme? Why the limitations here? They have sponge cake and an injectification (not a word) system, let’s get with the creative snack making!!

Frankly, I think the Chocodile was a half hearted attempt at what we’re looking for.

After that whole pornographic Pin Wheel commentary, I’m both hungry and a little aroused. I can’t wait for your review on Banana Twinkies.

EEwww that Banana thing looks awful, I eat bananas but not banana milkshakes or cakes. They don’t exactly look healthy either!
