America’s Next Top Model Cycle 11

In Pop Culture, Television by Heidi Nyburg on Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Here’s a peak at America’s Next Top Airbrush Victim Model Cycle 11. Naturally you can’t make out the contestants’ faces because of the blinding airbrush technique. And we don’t see Tyra in the photo, only an airbrushed facsimile. Oh wait, there she is, doing the oh so zen’d out 70s yoga pose front and center. What. Did. They. Do. To. Her. Face. Yes, we’re aware that using one word sentences for emphasis is soooo 2007 but so is blogging in first person plural and you don’t see us making that a fond memory.

Next season we’re going on strike unless the only person on the poster is noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker. In fact unless Nigel plays the host, the runway coach, the jaded former supermodel (first or otherwise) and all of the contestants, we’re just not going to watch.

For now though we’ll suffer through the unrecognizable wannabe Oprah that is Tyra Banks surrounded by her minions vying for yet another unremarkable career as America’s Next Marginally Successful Model. In case you’re planning on watching, Cycle 11 begins September 3rd on the Gossip Girl Channel er we mean the CW network.

The Hippie theme promotional poster is interesting. It seems like they have some very nice talent this year. Maybe its even worth a few looks.

I can’t wait to turn the channel on this one. I’d be more interested in America’s top actor or America’s top eyebrow plucker. I am so tired of Tyra.

Well, i don’t really follow models, or watch much about them, but why do all that airbrushing when they are meant to be naturally beautiful. Not only do they airbrush, but have piles and piles of make up on. I bet they all look entirely different! I studied photography at college and am quite nifty in photoshop, but i would rather start off with a good photo and make some tweaks, knowing i am a good photographer.

i feel exactly the same way about tyra. i really did try to like this show, as i like watching the process of creating fashion photography, but really, nigel’s the only one i can stand (and maybe twiggy). i feel like tyra stuffed the show with her peons. :(

which is why i’m glad ‘make me a supermodel’ provides for me a more interesting alternative. :)

And what’s up with one arm being much lighter than the other? Also, where’s the “I’m the world’s first supermodel because I said so” woman?

To be honest, I was once a diehard fan of this ANTM series, but I started to lost my interest on it, once the series became more and more boring than before…

Sorry, Tyra. I think I need to say “Pass” to the ANTM…

Nowadays, This also happens in Argentina. The reality show has come more important that other tv´s products. I dont think so.. (i don´t watch them) But the rating (in fact, how many people watching tv)seems to be the only important thing…

Wow, this is 11th season? And what are the names of ten previous girls? I’m not too much in modelworld but as it is written in the article they’re “Marginally Successful Models” as it seems to me.
But I like the poster ant the idea.

I must admit that I like watching Top model, maybe because I am a girl and I am intrested in fashion and all that hehe.
But it dosn’t really look like Tyra Banks on the picture, huh?
Hmm, but right now i do not really spend my time in front of the tv, but it is very entertaining in my opinion.

Reality shows are the hot favourite thing these days. Everyone’s starting one, it pays well !! you dont have to pay the contestants etc.. its a good business scheme. Sitcoms arent that famous these days.

good heavens as it were, is her pose supposed to be reminiscent somehow of a Shiva statue or something?
Well, throwing a little Bollywood into the mix can only be a good thing, imo, and after 11–what did they call them?– cycles (reincarnation echoes is it?… I’m pretty thick..) they are probably running low on original ideas……

Yea….i don’t like that picture at all. I do like Nigel though, he has an awesome accent! I hardly ever watch Top Model though. It’s all drama and then come next year, no one even remembers who won. Good to watch if i need to catch up on petty cat fights…

These gergous gals remind me of drug, corruption and sorriness.
They try their best to show the most beautiful side for others but do you think they really understand what the real beauty is?
It seems that they do everything they can to go after fame and money.

I was drawn to watch AMNT this season because they had their first transgender model contestant.

I must admit, despite this I did find Tyra’s “strong sense of self-love” a bit overwhelming. It’s almost as if she has setup the show to be an ego boost just for her. *sigh*

I do appreciate that there are fewer artificial moments of suspense than other reality shows. I must have spent at least a good few hours of my life waiting for Ryan to reveal who was not going to make it through. At least they get down to business at AMNT…

I’m not gonna lie, I can’t stand Tyra! It is funny, however, that my wife is addicted to that show but knows that she shouldn’t be. I’ll come home from work and as I walk in she’ll quickly change the channel so I can’t see what she was watching. It’s like I was her parent catching her watching something dirty for the first time. Hilarious!:-) -M
